A rabbit of little words. She communicates mostly through her actions. Doesn’t seem to quite grasp how others express emotions and she often takes things literally. She can come off as clueless at times and lacks the tact and manners typically expected of a royal.
Xiulan was sheltered by her family growing up, causing her to become quite shy and introverted as she began training as a Ward. Because of her size and status as a Blueblood, her peers often avoided training with her.

### The Sylvila Warren
Sylvila’s hierarchy is similar to the Dawnchasers and the Duskrunners, but do not have a Chief. Instead, a group of six captains called Heirs oversee the Fighters, Scouts, Herbalists, Storytellers, Wards, and Caretakers. Heirs are usually from the royal families within the warren (being Jiang, Koning, Darling, Song, ordered from smallest to largest). Every 20 years, young prospective Heirs are put to trial over a three-year period. The trials are held every equinox and are based off of the six known gods.
The blue blood mutation that runs in Sylvila is rare, but not unheard of, affecting about 1 in 500 births. Those born with blue blood who survive past kithood are treated as a third gender, aptly called “Bluebloods”. They often grow up to be larger than their peers and are believed to be stronger than a regular rabbit, but mentally weaker. While it is true the mutation is correlated to a large body size, the actual cause of “mental weakness” is usually stress from societal isolation that aggravates other existing conditions—blue blood is often comorbid with mood disorders and memory disorders.
### Xiulan’s Life
- Xiulan was born to the small royal Jiang family in the deteriorating Sylvila warren. Her birth was taken as a sign of hope: the last time a Blueblood was a Heir of Sylvila, she had brought much prosperity and peace between the ruling families.
- However, Xiulan was born as a single kit and without a right paw, which greatly disadvantaged the Jiang family as she competed for the title of Heir of Sylvila. When the prospective Heirs would compete in physical trials, they would largely ignore her and instead fight amongst themselves—except for Keone, a non-royal Ward that is also competing for Heir. She is the only prospect that is kind to Xiulan and treats her as an equal. Xiulan has fun for the first time sparring with Keone, who insists on also fighting one-handed.
- Keone wins the first trial of the Heirs and becomes First Heir. She helps to oversee the following trials and makes sure Xiulan is always given a fair chance. She helps Xiulan wrap her ears and paws before trials and gifts her a lucky bracelet.
- Xiulan doesn’t remember much of the other trials. They aren’t important. She places last in each of them, and the other new Heirs aren’t her friends like Keone is.
- For the sixth and final trial of the Heirs, the remaining prospects are tasked to race across the top of a mesa and collect numbered checkpoint flags placed beforehand as proof, as a ritual to the chase between Ozwoloz and Jet, the deities of light and shadow. When the race starts, the other prospects rush to the top, where they are caught in an intense sandstorm.
- After the storm passes, Xiulan completes the race and assumes that she had come in last, as she has trouble finding the checkpoint flags which had scattered across the mesa. When she descends to the other side of the mesa, she wins the trial and is crowned as the new Sixth Heir of Sylvila. The other prospects don’t arrive and the other families believe she had somehow cheated–how can a one-handed rabbit even complete this course?
- Over the next few days of anxious waiting, no one else finishes the course. Scouts investigate the mesa, but no bodies are found, either, as they’ve been either scavenged or blown away into the ever-growing Sandsea.
- Both the elder and new Heirs are shaken and decide to instead disqualify and exile Xiulan–except for Keone, who insists she saw signs of a storm during the investigation, and that Xiulan naturally avoided it because she was slower than the others.
- Keone’s arguments do not work, and the two are exiled from Sylvila.
- Xiulan is confused as to why Keone would give up her title of First Heir just to defend her, and Keone just laughs it off as the two fall asleep in a small hollow on their first night away from home.
- Then the darkness came.
## MISCELLANEOUS
### Trivia
- Somewhat large, at 11 inches tall (at the withers) on all fours. Standing on two legs, she is 23 inches (at the top of the head).
- Expects others to call her Jiang instead of her given name, which is reserved for close friends (well… just the one, really) and family. She gets annoyed if someone she doesn’t know calls her Xiulan.
- Keone was in love with her. Xiulan will not figure this out for a while.
- Has a poor memory. She is afraid of forgetting Keone.
### OOC
- In their [original 17776-inspired universe](https://stargoon.carrd.co/#artbook), Xiulan and Keone are rivals. Keone has “complete respawn amnesia” while Xiulan does not. Every cycle, Keone goes through a song and dance of falling in love again, but sometimes, she doesn’t. It breaks Xiulan’s heart, and she just wants their 1000 year game to end.
- Not open for ships but other relations are definitely okay! Xiulan is awkward and typically will not initiate interactions.
