He is known for his physical style of playing and getting under the skin of opposing players. # Public history As a teenager, Kit played as a defenseman for the [[Calgary Mustangs]]' junior teams and gained a reputation for being an incredible skater, shooter, and pest. Though his stats looked good, many teams passed up drafting him because of his size and chosen position. Kit was drafted by the [[New York Thunder]] 19th overall in the 2004 NHA Entry Draft. The Thunder coaching staff played Kit as a forward instead of a defenseman in order to fit him into the roster. Kit did well as a forward and opted to permanently switch positions. After his entry-level contract expired with the Thunder in 2007, he signed with the [[San Francisco Blades]] and have been playing for them since. Lopes’s given Siksika (Blackfoot) name, *Sinopa*, means kit fox, which is where the nickname *Kit* comes from.
